Summer Cleanup

Loads of things are happening in the OSgrid lately, and i have been skipping a month again with updates. Dispite the few updates and love this Blog get's, the grid we live in is still busy as always. So here's a short list of what's been happening, in a random order :

* The OSgrid map was cleaned, and a massive 4800 regions have been purged. These were all offline for longer than 6 weeks, so mostly tests, failed installs, or just abandoned. This has no influence on your regions, when you boot them up, there back. In the worst case scenario, someone has now taken a mapspot where your offline region used to be. Simply change it's location in your region.ini and restarting your simulator will fix that.
* As a result map is way more accurate.(less failing teleports).
* Opensim moved to version 0.9.x. So did the Diva Distro. Along with that, a lot of fixes have been added in the code, so if you're still on some shabby old version, update your regions.
* Since all the homestead plots were occupied, Zaius plaza has been "cleaned". Meaning that abandoned plots and people that haven't logged in for over 45 days have been "evicted" as per their convenant to make space for newcomers. Should this somehow leave someone without any space to live, feel free to contact an inworld admin.
* OSG10B had its 10th Birthday. The exhibit regions will not exists much longer, so if you haven't seen the builds there, be quick and check them, to not miss out.
* Another place that a lot of work is being carried out on, is the backend of the OSGrid website. It's a massive task but getting along quite nicely.  Paella Argus quit the active admin team, to be able to fully devote to the website & it's development. The changelog is found here.
* Osgrid is organising a Fundraiser. The grid is 100% ran on donations, and altough all is free there, the $1000,+ a month hosting costs are very real. Without our community support OSG cannot exist, and to raise awarenes and gain neccesairy extra funds, a fundraiser program will become active with  events. Read more about it in the OSGrid Forums.

Red Dragon back online

For OSGG10b all 25 Red Dragon Regions have been reinstated and are up and running on latest. This includes Red Dragon VIII, IX and X builds, aswell as all residential area's and oceans. As the VIII build was realised between 2010-2012, it has some unique shops like D&J furniture, Jorinks Art Gallery, -*RDS* Design, Redverse, Lalinda's & Perfect Pillars, which you won't find elsewhere in the grid anymore.

Also it's a nice place to explore, much hidden and underground builds, shops, stores, cinema's, gallery's, tunnels, hidden passages, etc. etc. Mind it is all prim, so will take a bit to load. These regions are best viewed with 1024 mtr view, loads of zoom, and ultra video settings.

OSG10b preparations are in full progress, and if you want an exhibit plot, you best not wait much longer claiming one. There is less than 25 plots available, and full is full. You can already pop by and take a sneek peak to the creative explosions brought to you by OSgrids Residents.

Ask any admin to assign you a plot if you like to build a display on this 10 years special anniversary OSG10b regions.  Be part of the history of the Hub of the Metaverse.

If you like OSgrid and would love to contribute to the festivities, consider giving it a Birthday Present.. Also, if you happen to have an opensimworld account, and no use for it's coins, consider donating them to any OSgrid Plaza. We use these for advertising & promotions.

OSG10B

6 months... it has been that long since i posted something here. 3 drafts, and no posts. Ouch. Well life has been busy, but we're still around, having fun and partying every week in the OSgrid.

Currently the Red Dragon regions are Offline, as we disassembled the server it was running on. Red Dragon is as old as OSgrid (it's just over 10 years now) so we consider building version XI rather than putting back the bloated VIII - X builds on the shiny new custom built water cooled machine we recieved from Dragon Computers.

OSgrid will celebreate it's 10th birthday next month. Traditional the OSG10b regions have been fired up, where the commmunity builds displays and demo's for the occasion. We will also Party like we do every year, and you can expect a weekend full of DJ´s & live entertainers cheering up the celebrations. It will be a blast, Here's an invite to you all to come join us and celebrate the anniversary of the hub of the Metaverse.

Red Dragon Osgrid 2017

Red Dragon Nite club is 10 years old this year. Of these 10 years, we have been "operational" for 3,5 years in Secondlife, giving huge party's every weekend. In the Osgrid we spent most our time building. This resulted in regions with over 50.000 prims, which makes them look nice, but renders them useless for events / party's.  Red Dragon build X is the latest build, meaning we should be considering making a new build next year.

So what's happening in OSGrid in the first quarter of 2017:

Every week :
- weekly developer meetings on Tuesdays  (Wright Plaza).
- weekly Wednesday Party by Aussie & Sirius on wednesdays (Event Plaza).
- weekly Friday Party by Osgrid with various DJ's (EP).
- weekly Resident meetings on Saturdays (WP).
- weekly Live musicians at the Maritime club on Sundays (belfast).

Special events :
- Class of 2017 will start somewhere in Q1 (learn to run your own simulator).
- Osgrid Valentine Event (will be held at Event plaza, the Friday before valentines day).
- The Annual "Cornflakes week" will be held in the last week of Februari.
- Community classes ( Scripting / Dj-íng / Basics etc ).

In the past year i've DJ'd every OSgrid Friday party (50 of 52 weeks). In the next year, you will see old and new faces playing sets on Fridays, but a bit less of Foxx. I threw myself out of the active DJ list, and went on "reserve". Both to have time for other activities, and to make room for "fresh blood".
If you're a DJ, and want to brighten our party's with some kick ass tunes, feel free to contact me inworld or on FoxxBode@Osgrid.org

Last but not least, we currently have an active OSGrid group on the Steamcommunity with OSG residents playing "other games". Stuff like GTA V, Saints Row, Left 4 Dead, and various other fun to play co-op games. If you'd love to shoot me in the face, or just like having fun outside the grid, feel free to request an invite.  Red Dragon Nite club has it's own group there. Any member of RDNC on Steam is automatically eligeble to recieve free random Steam Game keys.
