Xmas Party in OSGrid !

Every week I like to hang at party's at event Plaza. Mostly every Wednesday, and for sure on Fridays, to kick off my weekend. OSgrid is home to loads of great DJ's, and i really enjoy listening music. And yes i could put on some playlist, radio or Spotify, but i'd miss out on the excellent selections of the inworld DJ's. I learn about new songs nearly every week, and smile at the gems i didn't hear since long.
Due to OSgrids DJ's coming from allover the world, the song choices are always a surprise. What you might not know, is most of the Event DJ's also run party's at their own regions. Yesterday i got invited to a party at Trancelucid club, hosted by DJ Kawaii. She mainly plays dance, trance and club music, and since i'm a 'slave to the beats', i had a blast. Sunday mornings usually have party's at "The Alternative" where DJ Lanani streams a variety of easy going tunes.

If you are more into Live Music, try to visit OSgrid on Sunday evening, and check up on the Maritime club on Belfast region, which hosts the longest running "live music event" in the Grid. They feature various musicians and singers streaming live concerts straight into your viewer. On Tuesdays you can find live performers at the Almost Islands.No need to be ever bored, always something playing or coming up shortly.

Cleaning up the Blog

No, i'm not wiping it, nor stopping it, just cleaning it up. Removed a few bunch plethora of dead links, the downloads page & footer links have been cleaned, and we brought the information in the sidebars up to speed again. Inactive pages with historical references will remain available, and new links will be added on a irregular basis as we collect them. Some more page maintenance is planned, check back and visit to check the changes.

OSgrid 12th Birthday has been a blast, with loads of visitors during the week long events. Great music and DJ's almost 24/7 and a variety of skilled live musicians, streaming live concerts into Event Plaza. Like every year, very cool displays were built on the OSG12B regions, which you can still visit ! Don't wait too long though, as these regions will disappear within now and a few weeks. For rest life in OSgrid is fun as always. Unexpected flash-mobs of the LBSA-band brighten up the early weekend mornings, after a great Friday Party at event plaza.

OSG10B

6 months... it has been that long since i posted something here. 3 drafts, and no posts. Ouch. Well life has been busy, but we're still around, having fun and partying every week in the OSgrid.

Currently the Red Dragon regions are Offline, as we disassembled the server it was running on. Red Dragon is as old as OSgrid (it's just over 10 years now) so we consider building version XI rather than putting back the bloated VIII - X builds on the shiny new custom built water cooled machine we recieved from Dragon Computers.

OSgrid will celebreate it's 10th birthday next month. Traditional the OSG10b regions have been fired up, where the commmunity builds displays and demo's for the occasion. We will also Party like we do every year, and you can expect a weekend full of DJ´s & live entertainers cheering up the celebrations. It will be a blast, Here's an invite to you all to come join us and celebrate the anniversary of the hub of the Metaverse.

When the days go shorter the party´s get bigger

Red Dragon 7,5 years Anniverssary

In September of this year, The Red Dragon Nite Club celebrates its 7,5 years anniversary. The club was founded by JamesHenry Palen in Secondlife, and bought by it's DJ, Foxx Bode a couple of months later. Awesome years of party's followed, every weekend for 3 years in a row, in 7 incarnations of the clubs build. It had over 4500 members when Foxx retired from SL and built Red Dragon VIII in OSgrid.

The 9 region VIII build including backups was lost in a disk-crash, but i managed to get it recovered 2,5 years later by Seagate.  In the meantime Red Dragon IX and Red Dragon X were built, and both of those builds still exist on the OSgrid today. With almost 50.000 prims and over 2500 scripts on its main sim, Red Dragon is (one of) the biggest club builds in the metaverse. Unfortunately the regions are not very suitable to have wild party's with loads of avatars, due to the excessive load on the machine on which it is hosted, and the stress it put's on the average users viewer and connection.

Since we cannot let a 7,5 year anniversary pass quietly, we contacted OSGrid administration and got permission to run an anniversary party on Event Plaza. (Hehe, the irony. Having the biggest club around and not being able to use it for which it was built). Anyhow. Party is party, and the show must go on. Feel welcome, and bring your party gear.

OSG8B Party

The OSgrid Birthday party kicked off yesterday with a short speech and tunes by Dan Banner. After 2 random crashes and nice fireworks, the region behaved, and with 52 avatars on the region we had good fun.
DJ's  LadyJo and Jazzy were followed by Live performances of Joaquin Gustav and Whirly Placebo, but under the sound of awesome guitar tunes i must have slipped off into a weird dream. ( I was dancing with a girl with horns wings and bunny slippers, in a psychedelic world full of bright colors and rotating mushrooms and pretty lights). Anyhow. I woke up in bed instead of like this, and no headaches, so all apparently went well.

The lineup for tonight includes yours truly, JayMaze of D&J's and the Maritime club on the road with live performances and DJ Stiofain.

OSGrid Formalities & Party

All regions of Red Dragon have been updated to the latest version, and we have enjoyed our annual holidays this year. Whilst relaxing under the sun in Croatia, on wifi reading the OSG forums on the meeting last week, I can best quote Mr. Albertlr Landar of OSGrid Inc. :

""The main announcement that was made at our annual meeting held on July 5th was that OS grid, Inc. is now a Non-Profit Tax Deductible (In the United States) Corporation as the Internal Revenue Service has made that designation as of May 15, 2015.
Also any contributions or donations to OSgrid back to Feb 19, 2013 will be considered deductible. If you made a contribution or donation in those prior years of 2013 or 2014 and would like a receipt please let us know. You will have to file an amended tax return to have those funds refunded to you.

OSGrid took good steps forward by becoming it's own legal entity. This opens many pathways to the future, and if you're involved in the grid any way, i suggest you read all about it yourself in the above link.

Next weekend OSGrid will celebrate it's 8th year birthday, and a nice lineup of DJ's committed to come play some tunes at the event. This includes JayMaze, Foxx, LadyJo, SnakeDance and Stiofain, and various liver performances by various artists. If your an OSG DJ or would also like to contribute to the event, please check this topic.

OSG7B OSgrid turns 7

OSgrid turns 7 this year, and as usual they have a couple of regions prepared for displays of it's inhabitants. The events are held on 26th and 27th of July. Red Dragon participated last minute in the past OSG6B edition, so this year we decided to be the first to put a small display build there. Sneak preview picca.

Since it was only announced last week, there is no schedule for events as yet, but this will likely take shape in the next weeks. The fastest way to obtain a plot is to get in touch with one of the admins. Currently the west region has a few spots left, on east there is still plenty of room.  I expect a topic to emerge on OSG forums about events soon, and will post the schedule here as soon as i obtain it. So come have your cake and eat it, at OSG7B. You can find the regions to the left and right of event plaza on the map.

The troubleshooting document in my previous post was well received, and has been edited and corrected on certain points. its at rev 1.3 now and work on it will continue overtime.

More party news

Saturday the 15th of March Red Dragon Club X presents "The House of Beats" Dance party. Grab your rave-sticks and come party. DJ Foxx Bode will run the stream, and teach you what that subwoofer below your desk was meant for again. Your host will be SnakeDance Moonwing. The party starts at around 10.00 grid time, until 13.00 max. (Thats 19.00 to 22.00 if you are in europe). Sunday morning will have a chill-out session with more mainstream music. 

Enough about the weekends for this post, you can also party Today ! The "Blue Wave" club on Pyramid region, runs events every wednesday, at 7.00 UTC. The region houses a large pyramid, with a big pool inside. And you party under water ! Your host here is Samira Samtanko. 

I'm awaiting the opening dates for Club Quantum and Club Holland, and most of the events listed here are also present on LBSA plaza's infoboard. Another simple way to find these clubs even if you forgot the name, is hopping by wright plaza and visit the Travel office. It's kept up to date with the latest and greatest.

Loadtest Completed

After making a terrible mess of the starting time of the Red Dragon Loadtest ( I "assumed" i knew what time dev meeting started, and calculated from GMT time there, mixed that with PST timezone, took the root of UTC, multiplied it by 21% am GMT-5...... and ended up 5 hours off ). We did have a successful test though. The new server is clearly not impressed with any load it was given, which is great. It has got more than enough RAM CPU and bandwidth to cope with any amount of visitors attending a party in OSG simultaneously, listening to 128 KB/s audio. Opensim did catch an exception and crash after about 2,5 hours, with around 20 avatars on the sim, and had 1 report of someone not being able to normally TP in.

To all people that came by (also those that found an empty club earlier) apologies for the timezone mess, and the crash at the end, but thank you all for helping out and visiting. Much appreciated.

I plan to organise a party this weekend already, but first have to puzzle a bit ( learn about timezones and such), and make sure not to interfere with other events. This as i feel we need more activities on OSG, not competing ones IMO. Also i have some stuff to fix ( thanks for all the feedback )  like a decent danceball, some more config tweaks, event poster for LBSA plaza, fix the welcome LM, find pole dancers etc. So it was a good & productive test run.

So partying will start soon. Updates on this Blog will hence follow more rapidly, so feel free to subscribe if you'd like to keep posted.  I will make an additional topic in the OSG forums to update events for people that don't like Blogs, or just never heard of us.

After 3 years of building, were going to put some more beats into the grid. Hope you come visit and have fun. More tomorrow....

Red Dragon Moves to hosted server

With the build expanding, and people requesting to party, a roadshow appeared to be the only option available (read previous topic). So in 1 week i got offered to DJ at Club Quantum and at D&J club. As if that wasn't sufficient, i got an awesome offer by the owner of the new club Yiffi (Kris Terrien) to have my Red Dragon regions hosted on a "spare" server. And what a spare !! a Xeon with 32 GB RAM 2 TB disks in raid and a 200 M/bit synchronous connection. As you can imagine, the migration was swift;  so as of today Red Dragon will be online 24/7, and with all the performance it needs. This also calls for a load test, and if that goes well, a party. I will build Kris a statue at the entrance later... \0/

Faq:

Huh party, at a 45.000 prim region ?  
Yes. thats the idea, if it underperforms for any reason, the test will move to the adjacent Club X sim with half the prims. Mind the region can still put some strain on viewer and GFX, depending on your settings and hardware, especially at 1st login.

So does this mean you're not doing the "Red Dragon Roadshow" ?.  
Why not?  More party's....  this grid can't have too much fun. Updates will follow.

So when is that Loadtest scheduled?        
Tuesday 18 februari Red Dragon Nite Club Region. Also some soundchecks will be performed. Your attendance is greatly appreciated. The exact time will be issued via a Google+ invite.

So if the server holds well, Red Dragon will organise a party soon ?
Yes, in the next weekend. DJ Foxx, and possibly a guest DJ will spin some sets, more details will follow.

For now i have to finetune the configs, enable voice, configure shoutcast etc.etc. but feel free to visit and check out the regions.

D&J 5th year anniversary

Friday 22-11 i attended the 5th anniversary of D&J's and celebrated with what is likely the oldest club in the metaverse. For the occasion we were not on the close encounter ( D&J Home region ) but you can visit the region by finding  "Feriae Quinquennial" on the map.

With 5 years of non stop party's every friday, (and trust me, i have done so for 3 years in SL. this takes dedication, devotion, and loads of it ) Dorothea and Jay are true "Pillars of Community". Respect, and a big thanks for all the fun & good times are in place here, and i assume i can safely post this is on behalf of a lot of OSG residents. Keep rocking, and hope to be at the 10 year celebration as well.

The party was great, and busy, I saw a lot of familiar names (couldn't recognise anyone, as all were dressed up in Roman outfits), and also talked to some people i hadn't seen in months. If you have some spare time, you should visit this region just to check out the build. It is detailed, and beautifully made.

Halloween Dance 2013 in OSgrid

The annual halloween party OSgrid throws was just announced on OSg forums Halloween Dance for 2013!!

Last years party was a big success, pictures of it can be found at  OSG's Halloween Gallery . There is still plenty of time left to gather your spooky outfit and free time in your tight building schedules as this is one of those party's  you don't want to miss. LBSA plaza already transformed to a spooky graveyard like gloomy place. We will put up some halloween stuff only on Red Dragon club X region. (too much cleaning afterwards if we put it everywhere)  Happy hunting the grid for all the cool Halloween treats, and hope to see all you zombies at the party !

Travelcenter and OSG6B Closing Event

Red Dragon installed the travel centre on 2 locations, Red Dragon Nite Club, and Red Dragon Shops. From there, you can now travel trough to various places OSG and the hypergrid have to offer. You can update your own, or request placement of your LM and picture on the main center in Wright Plaza. 
We also erected a smal exhibit on OSG6B west, where you can read the Blog, check some pictures of the various Red Dragon Builds, and grab some goodies.

OSGrid 6th birthday closing event will be held 1pm gridtime /pst ( This is 22.00 CET for us europeans) at OSG6B Central.Dont miss out on the last party of OSG's 6th Birthday.

OSB turned 6 years so the OSG6B party kicked of yesterday at D&J's close encounter region. There are 4 regions with exhibits and displays  of various OSG residents, and a central stage where party's will be held.
Freebies, region showcases, displays, sci-fi, smurfs, you will find plenty of wanna haves so make sure to pay the regions a visit. OSG6B north sourth east and west have the displays, events are on Central.

Housekeeping & Party

After we upgrade to the latest OSG release  (planned for next weekend), it's about time to do some housekeeping work on the simulators. The club build now has over 28.000 prims, and since it is really nowhere near finished, it's time to put the region in it's own single instance. It's current 2 neighbours in the same simulator carry around 15.000 and 4000 prims now and it eats a heap of RAM. And although i don't expect it to cause problems, it's just handy to be able to shutdown all other regions, and so free up some GB of Ram when desirable. While at that, can just aswell make some fresh OAR's, and start cleaning out the old installs of 2012 and claim back some diskspace.

Tonight we attended a rock party at the Blue Wave club. Its found in the region "Pyramid", and is under water. I found myself between fancy dressed avatars, with various rock classics swinging the place, provided by samira's live stream. As you can see in the pic, there's a party here every wednesday. And we can't party too much, now can we, with all this hard labour ahead of us....  Feel you missed out ? If your quick you can still get there... Next opportunity is this friday, when you can find most party people at  the weekly D&J party with DJ(ay). Yao

OSgrid's 4th birthday (OSG4B) is on from 22nd to 25th of July. 

The announced special events that OSgridders will hold on their regions this weekend are:

* 23rd at 10.00 UTC: Guided tour of OSgrid with demonstration of building by Larysa Firehawk. The tour will be display on a big screen in RL Australia. Everyone welcome to participate

TGIF

Each Blog needs a TGIF topic, and so does this one. Today is Friday, (at least, it is in this part of the world) which means it's Party time at D&J's Close Encounters Region. Hostess "Doro" and DJ "Jay" are active in OSG for quite a while, and run a weekly event to entertain it's residents. Visit and  you will find many of the "familiar faces" running around OSG, and possibly meet some new.

As you might have experienced OSG doesn't have a huge number of organised events, manly due to the nature of the home connections on which many sims reside, and many residents using it as private retreat, sandbox, testproject, etc. Red Dragon will start organising weekly events, mainly party's, but were also considering themed events, possibly classes, and maybe even some "live music". Keep track of this page and you will keep informed of where and when there's any action.

Since not all seem to have noticed, Profile, Picturs, Interests, Picks, they all work. Add your favorite places, so others can find the same great places you visit.
